A couple app. The 404 is staged as a break-up over text: chat bubbles, typing indicator, “Error 404 💔”. The error becomes a storytelling beat that fits the product.

Flight ERR-404: cancelled
A travel-guide site. The 404 is shaped as an airport departures board: five real-looking flights, yours in red, “CANCELLED”. The “Missed connection” headline earns a smile before bouncing visitors back to the guides.

Total eclipse
My own site. The site’s ring, fully eclipsed: a dark disc, a faint corona. “Total eclipse.”, then one line and a way back home, in French and in English on the same page.

An internal restaurant app. The 404 takes the shape of a split-flap time clock: the digits snap to “4·0·4”, status “OUT OF SERVICE”, and the missing page is treated like an absent employee: “Unknown page · ABSENT”. You clock back out with “Punch your way home”.

Card not found
A business-card SaaS. The 404 is a card falling apart (glitch, scanlines, “Card not found”) with a “hold to stabilize” that never quite stabilizes. The product itself, broken with style.

Beyond the reach of the probes
A confidential audit platform. The 404 turns into a deep-sea sonar: a bathymetric scale dives down to −404 m, where “no data was picked up by any probe.” Hydrophone on NO_ECHO, 0 packets received. The missing page is staged as a resource out of reach, true to the product’s world of sensitive data.
